Nigeria is divide(d) into six geopolitical zones with each zone sharing the same ethnicity and background, cultural practices and history.

The geopolitical zones have helped in effective allocation of resources by the government and was created during the reign of President Ibrahim Babangida.

  • North East region:

It comprises mainly of the Kanuri ethnic group and has six states; Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, and Yobe.

  • North West region:

It comprises mainly of the Hausa Fulani ethnic group and has seven states; Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, and Zamfara.

  • The North Central region:

It is also known as the middle belt and has the largest number of states. It is made up of mainly the Tiv ethnic group and has seven states; Federal Capital Territory Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nassarawa, Niger, and Plateau.

  •  South East region:

It comprises mainly of the Igbo ethnic group and has the least number of states, five states are in South East region; Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi, and Imo.

  • The South South region:

It comprises mainly of the Ijaw ethnic group and has six states; Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River state, Delta, Edo, and Rivers.

  • South West region:

However, the last but not the least geopolitical zone, is the South West region which is mainly dominated by the Yoruba tribes.

Six states in the South West region of Nigeria and these are; Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun, Lagos, Osun and Ondo. In Nigeria there are no ZIP codes, ZIP codes are only use(d) and available in the United States of America.
